What kind of place
Kasumi Coast is a spectacular destination designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty and is part of the San'in Kaigan Geopark.
Stretching for about 13 kilometers, this ria coastline features a series of sheer cliffs, sea caves, and uniquely shaped rocks, all sculpted over countless years by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan.
Among these wonders, the National Natural Monument "Yoroi-no-sode" stands out with its overwhelmingly powerful presence.
You can experience this magnificent natural beauty even more dynamically by taking a sightseeing boat or sea kayak and looking up at the majestic formations from the sea.
Landscape
The Kasumi Coast strongly retains the atmosphere of a "vibrant fishing town," having flourished since ancient times as one of the premier fishing hubs on the Sea of Japan.
At the heart of the town lies Kasumi Fishing Port, consisting of the East and West Ports. The sight of white fishing boats lined up row after row is a charm unique to this port town.
Rather than an artificially neat tourist destination, the town breathes with the authentic daily life of the locals. Houses are clustered tightly together as if to protect each other from the sea breeze, interwoven with narrow alleys and old-fashioned shopping streets.
As you walk through the town, accompanied by the scent of the ocean tide, you will find seafood processing plants, local direct-sales markets, and Kasumi Onsen hot spring inns dotting the area, allowing you to truly feel a lifestyle deeply connected to the sea.
At the foot of Okami Park, which juts out into the ocean, you can take in a unique landscape where the working port and residential spaces seamlessly blend together in incredibly close proximity.

Obikinohana Observatory

Located on a cliff just a 5-minute walk from Imagoura Beach, Obikinohana Observatory is a hidden gem offering a 240-degree panoramic view of the sea. On the distant peninsula known as Cape Isasa, you will find the Misaki district, an area where legends of the Heike fugitives still remain. As spring approaches the summer solstice, the position of the sunset shifts eastward across the sea. Then, as autumn arrives and the days grow shorter, the sun once again sets behind the peninsula.
